Ontario Free Methodist Church has been involved with Operation Christmas Child since 1999. It began with a Sunday School teacher
packing a box for a child with her class of children. Then when we moved to our current location, we had more space and decided we wanted to be a Relay Center. We did so for several years, then decided we could become a Collection Center and host the semi-truck for collection week. This year we will continue to serve as the Collection Center for Mansfield region of Ohio, which includes: Ashland, Bucyrus, Galion, Mansfield, Shelby, West Salem, Willard, and Wooster.
Our children at Ontario Free are involved in this ministry each year with decorating and packing shoeboxes for children in war-torn areas, poverty stricken zones, and natural disaster victims throughout our world. We love this ministry as it is not only a gift for a child, but the love of God that is shared with the child who receives a gift. It is a gospel opportunity through the simple gift of a shoebox filled with small toys, hard candy, hygiene items, and school supplies. For more information of how you can help a child have hope, check out www.samaritanspurse.org.
Local churches, schools, community groups, individuals and families from the Mansfield area participate in Operation Christmas Child each year. Each person plays a part in the ministry – packing, buying a gift, transporting boxes, finding shoeboxes from the community, etc. All of us working together can make a difference in a child’s life!
No matter how young or how old you are, children are in need of hope. The National Collection Week for 2016 is: November 14th-21th. If you need someone to share at your church about Operation Christmas Child, contact Dawn Morton, Mansfield, OH – Collection Center Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org. There are also opportunities to volunteer at the Collection Center!
Collection week is in November. For exact dates and times please refer to the church calendar.
